Books
Hair education without making your brain hurt.
I love learning.
I also love taking something complicated, pulling it apart, and figuring out how to explain it like an actual human being.
That's really where my books started.
After years behind the chair and continuing my education in hair and scalp science, I wanted to create approachable resources for people who were curious about their hair but didn't necessarily want to read a cosmetology textbook to get answers.
So I started writing them myself.
The Understood Series
The Understood series combines my experience behind the chair with my love of research, education, and asking approximately four hundred follow-up questions whenever I learn something interesting.
The goal isn't to tell you that you're doing everything wrong.
It's to help make hair make a little more sense.

Curly Hair, Understood
A Stylist's Guide to Hair That Thrives
Curly hair comes with a lot of advice.
And unfortunately, a lot of it contradicts itself.
Curly Hair, Understood explores the things that influence how curly and textured hair actually behaves, including curl patterns, density, porosity, products, styling, damage, scalp health, and more.
It's written for people with curls, parents learning to care for curly hair, and anyone who's ever looked at their hair and thought:
What the hell does it want from me?

Hair Loss, Understood
A Stylist's Guide to a Healthy Scalp
Hair loss can be confusing, emotional, and very easy to Google yourself into a panic about.
Hair Loss, Understood takes a closer look at hair growth, shedding, scalp health, common hair-loss concerns, supportive hair-care practices, and when a concern may need to move beyond the salon and into a medical professional's office.
The goal isn't to diagnose.
It's to help readers ask better questions about their hair and scalp.

Hair Color, Understood
A Stylist's Guide to Smarter Hair Choices
Hair color is chemistry, artistry, expectations, maintenance, and occasionally learning that the inspiration photo involved six hours, extensions, perfect lighting, and probably a filter.
Hair Color, Understood helps make sense of what actually happens when hair is colored, including formulation, lightening, damage, box color, maintenance, and the choices that affect the final result.
It's written to help people make more informed decisions about their hair without shaming anyone for what they've done to it before.
I've made choices, too.
Hair grows. ๐
Why Write About Hair?
Because I genuinely believe people deserve to know more about something they live with every single day.
Hair education shouldn't be reserved for hairstylists.
Clients ask great questions.
Parents want to know how to care for their children's hair.
People experiencing changes in their hair want somewhere to start.
And sometimes people are just curious about why the stuff growing out of their head behaves the way it does.
I get that.
I'm curious too.
The books are simply another way for me to share what I've learned and hopefully make somebody else's hair journey a little easier.
From the Bookshelf to the Chair
The learning doesn't stop when the book ends.
I continue exploring hair, scalp health, cosmetic chemistry, color, curls, products, and the science behind the beauty industry through my articles.
Meet the Author
Want to know how a fourth-grade bang disaster eventually turned into a career behind the chair, almost three years working in Japan, fashion shows, hair science, art school, and writing books?
It's a long story.
And yes, the bangs were really that bad.
